Lymphoproliferative disease virus (LPDV) has been detected in wild turkeys throughout the United States and Canada. High LPDV prevalence could be at least partially involved in regional population declines, but more information about the virus is needed. We reviewed literature on LPDV to consolidate our current understanding of the virus. LPDV prevalence ranges from 26‐83% and is highest in the northeastern and southeastern US. Detection of LPDV is most frequent in adult hens. LPDV can spread from turkey‐to‐turkey, but the predominant natural routes of transmission are unclear. Clearly, further work is needed to clarify what impact LPDV may be having on wild turkey populations.
