We used a combination of GPS and tri‐axial accelerometer data to investigate when wild turkeys were being killed by predators. We found that for hens, 43% of mortalities occurred at night while ground roosting with broods, 32% of mortalities occurred during the day, and 24% occurred at night while tree roosting. For toms, we found that 57% of mortalities occurred during the day whereas 43% occurred at night. Our findings demonstrate that the timing of mortality varies from hens to toms, and that a substantive amount of predation occurs while turkeys are roosted at night.
