Spatial Scale and Shape of Prescribed Fires Influence Use by Wild Turkeys

We used GPS data to inform an individual-based model in order to predict how the size and shape of simulated prescribed fires would influence how turkeys behaved. We found that the greatest use of fires was when they were about 50 acres in size, and least use was when fires exceeded 2000 acres. Our findings suggested that fires should not exceed 500 acres is wild turkeys are your target species for management.
