We used banding data from >3000 Rios to estimate annual survival and harvest rates, and estimate a population size in Texas. We found that annual survival of adult males was 49% but for juvenile males was 96%. Harvest rate of adult males was ~10%. We also found that male population estimates varied a lot through time, ranging from 328,000 to 136,000. Using the harvest average, we estimated average male abundance to be about 228,000 and female abundance to be 561,000 across the state of Texas.
